SYNOPSIS
While imprisoned by Dark Invader the beautiful Princess Slayer sends an SOS to her mentor, Guru.  His new apprentice Duke, falls hopelessly in love with the Princess and vows to undergo training to become a great warrior in order to save his loved one.  Thinking that this could all take too long, Princess Slayer considers overcoming her revulsion to androids and to seduce her captor ultimately persuading him to set her free.  Just as she convinces herself of the wisdom of this, Dark Invader reveals that he knows of the plan so will not be fooled. He also announces that he is aware of Duke and Guru’s intention to free her so avows to defeat them.

Duke and Guru arrive on Dark Invader’s planet and enter his fortress.  After hunting around for the Princess they find her but do not have time to escape from the approaching Dark Invader.  He foils their plan to hide from him in a cupboard and ultimately recaptures the Princess largely as a result of Duke’s cowardly inability to defend her.  Further battles ensue and Guru is slain, but on his deathbed he transfers his warrior skills and his precious light sword giving his apprentice strength to carry on without him.

More fights and chases result in final victory as Dark Invader is slain but not before revealing that he is the father of both Duke and Slayer!! The emotional family reunion is spoiled only by Slayer’s premature death and Dark Invader’s last moment of madness when, before collapsing himself, he takes the life of his only son, our hero Duke.

The show is interrupted by an intergalactic transmission from the President of the United Planets of the Galaxy, G Dubya Lukash, demanding changes to the ending to better suit the Galactic market.  The characters effect a remarkable come back to life, enabling them to offer a happy families Broadway finale.

THE SHOW
AUDIENCE PROFILE
The show is aimed primarily at a theatre market and this has been borne out by the audience profile of ticket buyers so far. While operatic in essence, this production is a musical in its delivery. This means that it caters to a broad range of audience from teenagers to classic opera-goers and can be actively used by Theatres and Opera Houses as an audience building tool.

Individual cast members are also available for group workshops for either schools or adult education.

THE BIG ISSUE

STYLE
Opera Galactica is a comic operatic, multi media musical ribbing the ‘Star Wars’ trilogy in riotous fashion while simultaneously sending up opera’s best known arias (liberally and irreverently re-worded).  In this version the four main Star Wars characters evolve to become the villain Dark Invader (Darth Vader), the heroine Princess Slayer (Princess Leia), the wise man Guru (Obe-Wan Kenobe) and the hero Duke (Luke Skywalker). These four along with Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Wagner and others star in an adventure which takes place in a distant galaxy a long time ago.  All the actors are professionally trained operatic singers. The tunes are so widely recognisable (the big hits from Magic Flute, La Traviata, Madam Butterfly, Carmen etc) and the visual references, including the hilarious flash back film sequence, are so common that it is not at all necessary to be either an opera or sci-fi enthusiast. Although the show is packed with in-jokes it alienates none and leaves audiences chuckling for days afterwards.

The Company will work closely with receiving theatres’ own marketing campaigns (if desired). The Company will also provide any media support in the form of interviews, synopses, photo calls etc as requested (and where practical) by the receiving theatres or their media partners. The Company members see this co-operation as the essence of a vibrant and successful marketing strategy.
